Reinstalling Archlinux - final state

Recently due to a kernel update I went to hell the whole system, and using the occasion I decided to mount all of 0. So take a lot of junk that even was.

The laptop of which I speak is not too old, but had decided to leave to install GNOME with Openbox and pcmanfm Tint2 bar and file browser.

The characteristics of which I speak are:

  • ASUS Laptop 1.7GHz Centrino Duo
  • 1024MB of RAM
  • 80GB HD (5200rpm)
  • Intel i945 graphics card (a real mess to vitiate -.-)

As it was before, the HD had a partition for Windows 7 (since the laptop was using another person's family), and then I had my partitions for Linux.

What I did first was to use the entire HD for Linux. So I created using different partitions fdisk putting it this way:

  • / Dev/sda1 100MB / boot ext3
  • / Dev/sda2 swap swap 1024MB
  • / Dev/sda3 31.25GB / ext4
  • / Dev/sda4 42.18GB / home ext4

The base system installation did not take me too Archlinux. In short, the end result was this:

I now turn to discuss everything that has gone there, which is not little. It took me two evenings to leave everything perfect.

  • Slim as account manager (GDM is too heavy)
  • Openbox keybindings with their respective media and general keyboard shortcuts configured on the rc.xml and menu.xml your custom menu
  • Pcmanfm as a file browser to handle volumes by udisks
  • Tint2 as panel
  • Conky for statistics and other things like CPU temperature, HD, IP and actual IP LAN, etc.
  • Faenza for icons
  • Neutral for the cursor
  • Basic Software:
    • VLC
    • Volti (to control audio)
    • Pulseaudio
    • Banshee
    • Geany
    • Sudo
    • Pidgin (with guifications)
    • Turpial-git
    • Tucan Manager (hate java JDownloader is ¬ ¬)
    • Google Chrome (dev)
    • LibreOffice
    • Blueman (bluetooth)
    • etc.
  • NotifyOSD for system notifications (Ubuntu system)
  • LXAppareance to change the style of windows and cursor
  • Yakuake as terminal
  • Oblogout. Nice way to shutdown, reboot, suspend etc.
  • xlock to lock the screen
  • Nitrogen for managing wallpapers
  • Network Manager to manage connections

This was the basics. Now step deeper things:

  • Iptables configured by hand
  • Postfix to send emails from the system to my gmail account (configured in iptables well)
  • Plymouth for a nicer startup
  • Daily running chkrootkit (cronjob) in search of rootkits. The result is sent to my mail
  • Logwatch (cronjob) sends me incidents that are in the system logs also mail
  • Script staff using rsync for backups (cronjob)

This is more or less everything, left me without much high or not because I remember that thing or something that had to do because of some of the story already.

Things I left undone by problems with what he had mounted or because I could not even put it:

  • It was impossible to put a compositing manager to work properly. Cairo Composite Manager Ni or xcompmgr or Compiz course (the latter mainly because it does not work with Openbox). The first everything worked well except me who had problems with Yakuake, which appeared only a very small when displayed the terminal. With the second and had problems before, windows that appeared to horns or shadows that remained after closing the window and so on. Anyway ...
  • I tried to put Burg (by Burg-Manager) so that GRUB was not so dull but neither was able, at first glance everything is done correctly, but nothing happens just reboot boots the GRUB normal xD

I must say I was so happy as I was all that he finished everything I set up a disk image in case something went wrong in the future lol.

If you are interested in knowing as I did something or want to know how I have a configuration file does not hesitate to comment or send me an email :)

Regards

Big news in Clementine player

It happened after upgrading my Arch ... I did not realize at the time ... but something had happened, something expected by users of this promising platform player ... Clementine suffered an update.

And major upgrade could take to write this entry? As I commented:

Looking at the picture you can see a new order of the tabs on "Collection, Archives, Playlist, ..." Being now a side panel (very decorative by the way).

But if you've already tried Clementine, not only that you look at it ... if not gentlemen now we finally have the option to view information for the song and artist! We see the story of the artist being played, or artists, or read the lyrics of the song (brings many search engines).

Are undoubtedly highly anticipated changes in the player.

RollingRelease, the definitive forum for the community Archlinux

Just opens the new ownership of the project site that carries the linux distro "Archlinux".

Named "RollingRelease" This new website will serve as a forum for the dissemination of new news and the whole community Archlinux from Archlinux community.

The idea came when Daniel Griffiths, executive editor of what was the magazine of Archlinux, seeing that he was too busy carrying the magazine a single person, created an entry in the Arch forum on community input on this issue. So it was that the community asked a magazine model more thought on the web, where the entire community really contribute to the cause.

For now it's all very empty, but I hope that soon will begin to fill with stuff.

Come in and see -> http://rollingrelease.com/
